An NJPW event didn’t go as planned.

On March 7, NJPW headed to Korakuen Hall in Tokyo for the opening night of the New Japan Cup. However, things didn’t exactly go to plan.

As the show began, company President Hiroshi Tanahashi made his way to the ring and announced that all matches scheduled for the event had been cancelled. He explained that a ring post had broken, meaning it wasn’t safe for the action to take place.

Despite the lack of wrestling, several members of the roster took turns to come out and entertain the fans with a series of light-hearted promos.

There’s no word on when the cancelled matches will take place.

NJPW Offers Refunds To Fans

Shortly after the announcement was made by Tanahashi, NJPW posted a statement apologising for the issue. The statement confirmed that fans would be offered refunds.

The event scheduled to take place today, Friday, March 7th at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo has been cancelled due to the fact that the iron pillar of the ring broke during setup, making it impossible to set up the ring.

We would like to offer our deepest apologies to everyone who attended the match and to everyone who was looking forward to the match.

Tickets for this tournament will be refunded. Please keep your tickets. We will inform you of the details as soon as they are decided.

In addition, a talk show will be held at the venue today featuring Hiroshi Tanahashi and other wrestlers.

Thank you for your understanding.
