Mercedes Mone has opened up about what made her sign with AEW and what she’s looking forward to as part of the company.

It was a busy week for Mercedes Mone. After signing with AEW in early 2024, she made her television debut at the Big Business episode of Dynamite on March 13th. While fans were excited to see Mone, who wrestled as Sasha Banks in WWE for a decade, they also wanted to see her in the ring.

At AEW Double or Nothing in Las Vegas, Mercedes Mone made her in-ring debut when she defeated Willow Nightingale in a terrific match to become the TBS Champion.

Mone celebrated her title win on AEW Dynamite while also beating Skye Blue in Mone’s first match on the company’s flagship television show.

After Mone’s win on Dynamite, Stephanie Vaquer from CMLL walked out as the NJPW Strong Women’s Champion. Vaquer held up her title from the ramp while Mone held up her TBS Title in the ring. The two women were teasing a possible match at the AEW Forbidden Door PPV on June 30th.

During an interview with TMZ Sports, Mercedes spoke about why she signed with AEW and what she’s excited about moving forward.

“We just celebrated five years this past Sunday and AEW is just legit, changing the game in wrestling. It’s the first competition for WWE in a very, very long time. As you see, AEW is where the best wrestle. You have me at the greatest of all time, the TBS Women’s Champion. You have Will Ospreay. You have Kenny Omega. You have Swerve Strickland. You have Willow Nightingale. I can just go on and on and on. But you have such amazing, incredible talent.”

“If there wasn’t an AEW, where would these people be? Where would I be? We are so thankful for AEW. Every single Wednesday, every single Friday, every single Saturday, people are just out there throwing it out of the park. We are just changing the game because we’re here. We want it. We want to do it.”

Mercedes Mone Wants To Globalize Women’s Wrestling

The former WWE Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone sees herself as a leader in women’s wrestling and she continued to speak about her goals while in AEW.

“I’m here to make women’s wrestling so globalized here. The next thing on the table is Forbidden Door. So I’m trying to see who’s trying to be next for this. It can be somebody from Stardom, New Japan, CMLL. Just like the dreams here in AEW are just so endless. The opportunities are endless. I can do everything and that’s why I chose to be here.”

Recently, Mone also spoke about how AEW saved her life, which is another example of how much she enjoys being in the company.
