Matt Hardy Thinks Fans Could Turn On Cody Rhodes

When Cody Rhodes finally makes his in-ring return in WWE following injury, Matt Hardy doesn’t believe he’ll necessarily have the support of the crowd.

Cody Rhodes surrpised the wrestling world when he traded his Executive Vice President role with AEW to head back to WWE, returning as Seth Rollins’ mystery opponent at WrestleMania 38. However, the return run was short-lived after ‘The American Nightmare’ suffered a torn pec before Hell In A Cell. Although he was able to compete in his match, once again against Rollins but this time inside the steel structure, he was then forced to take time away for recovery.

With Rhodes seemingly getting close to a return, Matt Hardy has noted that the crowd may not be on his side like they were when he returned at ‘The Showcase Of The Immortals’.

In a discussion on his Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy noted that the honeymoon period may be over for Cody Rhodes, and the fans may not buy in to him like before.

He was just a very polarizing figure. He’ll probably end up at some point – he had that new honeymoon phase at WWE, but once he gets back and he gets that huge babyface push and ultimately ends up being the guy who once again gets that as well, that’s just how wrestling fans are. Nothing can be pushed for too long without fans half-a** turning on it.

Cody Rhodes has been considered by many as a firm favorite for the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match, however it would seem that WWE’s plans for him at this year’s WrestleMania may have changed recently.
