Tonight was a huge night for WWE Speed Champion, Lexis King, as he faced his first-ever title defense in an NXT ring. The leader of BirthRight won the title back in April and defended it for the first time tonight.

Last week on the black-and-silver brand, the number one contender tournament for the WWE Speed championship began, with four different participants fighting it out for a chance at the title.

Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux wrestled each other to a time limit draw, which meant that Romeo Moreno’s win over Nathan Frazer made him the number one contender to King’s WWE Speed Title.

The first of two title matches scheduled for tonight, Romeo and Lexis put on an entertaining clash for the fans. Both wrestlers had a time limit of five minutes to showcase their skills and defeat the other as per the Speed Championship rules.

They had an extremely high-paced and high-intensity match, which ultimately went in favor of the champion. Lexis King had the whole of BirthRight by his corner, and Romeo Moreno had to deal with the group.

He took out Uriah Connors and Stacks with a massive dive, but it distracted him from King. He hit him with a running knee to the back and followed it up with The Coronation to pick up the win with more than 20 seconds left on the clock.
