IYO SKY Cashes In At WWE SummerSlam

IYO SKY wins WWE Money in the Bank 2023

SummerSlam saw a new WWE Women’s Champion crowned.

Asuka captured what was then the Raw Women’s Championship from Bianca Belair back at Night of Champions in May. Following the WWE Draft the star was moved to SmackDown and her title was subsequently renamed the WWE Women’s Championship.

Since then she had defended the title against Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair with the Flair bout ending in a no contest and Belair defeating her by disqualification which led to the triple threat match at SummerSlam.

With all three women looking to gain the advantage in the bout, disaster appeared to strike for Belair after she suffered a hard landing on the outside of the ring apparently injuring her knee. Belair was being taken out of the match by medical personnel when she fought her way back into the action and hit a huge 450 splash onto Charlotte Flair who had Asuka trapped in the Figure 8.

Belair herself found herself trapped in that move moments later but Asuka sprayed Flair with her poison mist and Belair was able to roll up Asuka for the win and the WWE Women’s Championship.

But the night was not over there as IYO SKY raced to the ring with Bayley and her Money In The Bank briefcase. Bayley took out Flair and Asuka before SKY floored Belair with the briefcase. One moonsault later and IYO SKY was the new WWE Women’s Champion.

The injured Dakota Kai appeared to celebrate with SKY completing the Damage CTRL line-up who debuted together one year ago at SummerSlam 2022.

What else happened at WWE SummerSlam?

Ronda Rousey may have wrestled her final match as she was put to sleep by her old friend Shayna Baszler. LA Knight picked up the biggest win of his WWE career so far when he won the Slim Jim battle royal by last eliminating Sheamus.

Immediately before Asuka, Flair, and Belair took to the ring, Seth Rollins benefitted from a miscommunication from The Judgment Day to defeat Finn Balor and retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
