Goldberg Gives Major Update On WWE Contract Status

Goldberg

While it had previously been reported that Goldberg was done with WWE, that might not quite be the case.

At Elimination Chamber 2022 Goldberg challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. The match had originally been scheduled to take place at WrestleMania 36, but when the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, Reigns took some time away from WWE.

In Saudi Arabia, Goldberg was defeated by Reigns as the Tribal Chief continued his dominant run at the top of WWE.

At the time it was reported that the bout was the last match on Goldberg’s current WWE deal and he hadn’t signed a new contract. This led many to believe that he was a free agent, and done with the company, at least for the time being.

However, it appears that this might have only been partially true. Speaking in a new interview with the New York Post, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that while he has completed his contracted number of matches, he’s still under contract with WWE.

He added that you “never know when the phone’s gonna ring.”

“I’m still waiting for that one [call] to happen one of these days,” Goldberg said. “But I suppose you never retire in the wrestling world until you’re dead, so who knows.”

It had also been suggested that the former World Champion would require surgery to remedy a shoulder issue, this also appears to be off the table. Goldberg explained that his shoulder had been “absolutely destroyed” over the last four or five years, although he had kept the severity of the problem hidden.

Due to extensive rehab, he now doesn’t believe that surgery will be needed.

“I have worked my ass off day, after day, after day to get to a point where I feel almost normal again,” he said. “I just kind of needed that break. I needed the mental focus of understanding that surgery wasn’t an option at the time and I needed to put my ass to the grindstone.”

He closed by saying that while he might never get the call to come back, he’ll be ready if it arrives.
