Former WWE Star Battling Early-Onset Parkinson’s Disease
A former WWE star has revealed the sad news that they’re suffering from early-onset Parkinson’s disease.
The wrestling business is a tough one, and there are very few people who emerge from it in better shape than when they went in.
One of those suffering from his years of abuse in and out of the ring is ex-WWE, ECW, WCW, and TNA star, Raven. As Scotty Polo, the star was part of WWE before he became Raven, a two-time ECW World Champion. He later made the jump to WCW in the late nineties, where he headed up his own Flock.
Raven Became A 27-Time Champion In WWE
He returned to the land of extreme before making the jump to WWE, where he is best remembered as a 27-time Hardcore Champion. After joining TNA, Raven became the NWA World Heavyweight Champion at Slammiversary in 2005 when he won the King of the Mountain match for the gold.
Raven appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show when he noted in the conversation that he’s “as content as I’ve ever been…other than this stupid tremor I got from the Parkinson’s.”
Helwani noted that he’d noticed the tremor in the upcoming documentary on the former WWE star’s life and asked how Raven was coping with the illness. Raven responded:
I’m lucky. It hasn’t affected me too bad. When I get anxious, the tremor gets worse or if I’m really tired. I have a sleep disorder.
You gotta pay the piper sometime. For all the drugs and alcohol and chair shots I took to the head, you gotta pay for the damage at some point.
Raven also noted that he had “tons of regrets” from his life but wouldn’t change a thing:
It made me who I am. I’m happy with who I am. I’d rather be happy with who I am at the end of my life rather than earlier in my life and not be happy at the end.
Nevermore: The Raven Effect comes out on Amazon Prime on November 18.
