Ex-WWE Star Says “A New Chapter Begins”

WWE Logo over Roster

James Drake is ready to take the next step in his wrestling journey.

Along with Zack Gibson, the NXT stars are set to become free agents in a matter of hours as their contracts expire on October 14th. Making it clear that they are not remaining with WWE, Drake posted the following update on social media:

ICYMI. Tomorrow, a new chapter begins. Thank you everyone who has supported us through the past 7 years, it really does mean a lot. I’m excited and equally terrified for what comes next. I haven’t felt this alive in such a long time. Life is for living, don’t forget that.

It should also be noted that Gibson’s post quotes the first tease of free agency that reveals the exact moment their contracts expire, noon Eastern time and 5 pm UK time. Coincidentally, New Japan will also be holding a show at The Copperbox Arena in London on that evening and the following day.

Tag Team Previously Requested WWE Releases

The tag team known as The Grizzled Young Veterans actually requested their release from the company back in April 2023, but these requests were denied. Surprisingly, Gibson and Drake were also not a part of the mass releases that took place in September, with the company instead opting for them to ride out the remainder of their contracts.

Ending their NXT Careers as part of Schism alongside Joe Gacy, the former NXT UK Tag Team Champions’ final match saw them lose to The Creed Brothers inside a steel cage.
