Edge’s WWE Contract Expires

Edge spears Sheamus

Edge looks to have wrestled his last match in WWE.

Edge was in action on Friday Night SmackDown in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, one week after returning to WWE TV and issuing a challenge to the man he gave credit to for his return to wrestling, Sheamus. The Rated-R Superstar had previously been forced to retire from the ring in 2011 due to injuries but in 2020 he made a stunning comeback that has seen him share the ring with the likes of Randy Orton, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns.

The WWE Hall of Famer picked up an emotional win over Sheamus after nailing the Irish star with two spears and after the bout told the crowd that “no matter where I make my main residence, this is always in my heart” but also confirmed that it was his last match there.

Edge previously confirmed the final match of his WWE contract

Prior to SmackDown, Edge had already confirmed to ET Canada that his match with Sheamus was the last of his current WWE contract:

“Here’s what I can honestly say, and this isn’t the answer everyone wants. I truly don’t know. I really really, with 100% truth can say I don’t know.

“That’s strange for me, but I don’t. I really don’t. I’ve put some thought into it, but not a lot. This is the last match on my current contract. I don’t know. I honestly don’t know.”

With that match now complete, it is believed that Edge’s WWE contract has expired and he would be free to pursue work outside the company. Excited fans have already begun to speculate over the possibility of a reunion with Christian Cage in AEW but with the former WWE Champion approaching 50, it might be time to go home and enjoy life.
