Drew McIntyre’s WWE Status Revealed Following New Movie Role
Drew McIntyre has not been seen on WWE TV since WrestleMania 42.
In the lead-up to the Show of Shows, the Scotsman was involved in a long-standing feud with Jacob Fatu, with their rivalry centered around a backstage attack in October 2025 that led to Fatu missing multiple months of appearances.
McIntyre, in the meantime, claimed that he was not the attacker. Fatu returned during the January 9, 2026, episode of SmackDown, where he inadvertently cost Cody Rhodes the Undisputed WWE Championship against McIntyre.
Fatu also played a pivotal role in their rematch a couple of months later, where The American Nightmare reclaimed his title to become a 3-time champion.
In the following weeks, both Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu were filmed fighting backstage on more than one occasion. As a result, their WrestleMania 42 bout was announced as an ‘Unsanctioned Match’ where everything was legal.
The match saw both superstars use a wide range of equipment to get the better of each other. In the end, it was The Samoan Werewolf emerging victorious after hitting his Mighty Moonsault, sending McIntyre through a table for a successful pinfall.
It has now been over 3 months, and Drew McIntyre has yet to return. Reports have verified that he has been filming his scenes for the Highlander reboot movie alongside Hollywood star Henry Cavill.
Latest Update Reveals Drew McIntyre’s WWE Status
Since WrestleMania 42, the talks surrounding Drew McIntyre have not been majorly related to WWE, but instead to his Hollywood career.
His manager, Nick LoPiccolo, recently shed light on McIntyre’s status with the Stamford promotion, asserting that the wrestler remains committed to his duties inside the squared circle.
Taking to X in the hope that the dust settles, LoPiccolo revealed that McIntyre had another movie lined up in addition to Highlander.
Drew secretly has another movie in the can too. That one hasn’t even started annoying people yet. The ledger keeps getting uglier, but let’s not ruin all the surprises.
A user then responded, claiming that they selfishly hoped to see Drew return to TV, but were happy that he was getting more acting jobs.
To this, LoPiccolo said that fans were not even aware that McIntyre had signed another movie until he revealed it. He also stated that WWE was incredibly gracious in allowing the 41-year-old to take another movie role.
You didn’t even know when Drew was filming Highlander or the secret event movie until now. Drew is a wrestler first. We respect what WWE wants and where they need him. This new movie is the exception, and they were incredibly gracious. I work around their schedule by default.
While LoPiccolo did not reveal the details of the other film, speculations are rife that it is The Last Druid alongside Russell Crowe, who is another one of his co-stars on Highlander.
Fans’ anticipation surrounding Drew McIntyre’s WWE return serves as a sign that he is missed by them despite being a heel figure in the promotion.
It is also being speculated that one of McIntyre’s biggest rivals, CM Punk, could be drafted to SmackDown.
