WWE To Buy Major Promotion? Wrestling Veteran Responds
A wrestling veteran has commented on the possibility of WWE buying a major promotion.
TNA Wrestling has come a long way since the promotion first launched over 20 years ago. During its initial years, the company tried its best to compete with WWE and even hired some of the best wrestlers who were ex-WWE stars.
At one point, Kurt Angle, Booker T, Sting, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Ric Flair worked with TNA Wrestling. Therefore, the promotion was able to hold its own against WWE. However, towards the end of the 2000s, the promotion started losing money, which resulted in them losing a lot of their top stars. As a result, TNA Wrestling landed itself in hot water and had to rebrand itself a couple of times. However, the company has since recovered a bit thanks to its ongoing partnership with WWE. The company was even able to secure a TV deal with AMC recently. This has led to speculation that WWE could buy TNA Wrestling just like they did with AAA.
Matt Hardy has commented on the possibility of WWE buying TNA Wrestling
Speaking on his The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the tag team legend clarified that TNA Wrestling is financially okay and the promotion is not going to be bought by the Stamford-based promotion right now. He also didn’t rule out the possibility of it happening down the road.
“So financially, TNA is okay. We’re not about to be bought by WWE right now. I know that’s the rumor. I think down the road in a few years that [could] happen, whatever. But right now that is not happening.”
Matt Hardy also debunked rumors that the company is in financial trouble, stating that they are trying to save money.
