Drew McIntyre Becoming WWE Champion Was A “Necessary Change”
This WWE Legend considers the recent WWE title change as being necessary.
The SmackDown main event in Berlin, Germany, was the endgame of the feud between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre in a Three Stages of Hell match with The American Nightmare’s WWE Undisputed title on the line.
The match was an exhilarating one in which McIntyre won the first round, a straight wrestling match, and Rhodes won the second, a Falls Count Anywhere match. The third and final stage, a Steel Cage Match, saw an interference from Bloodline member Jacob Fatu, who attacked both stars, but McIntyre managed to sneak out of the cage to win the match when Fatu was attacking Cody.
This was a delight to many WWE fans who were rooting for McIntyre to win the WWE Undisputed Championship. Fans felt McIntyre had lost too many title bouts and were afraid that another loss would mean him getting away from the world title scene for a very long time.
Many critics and former stars felt the same way, and one such star was WWE Hall of Famer Booker T.
Booker T Says That Drew McIntyre Winning The WWE Title Was Necessary.
On the latest episode of the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T talked about the title change. Booker T said that Drew McIntyre checks off all the boxes and is a major player in WWE. He likened McIntyre to a utility knife, claiming that he can “do it all.”
Drew’s been involved in just about everything. And he’s played such a pivotal role, as far as, is Drew leaving the company? Having that kind of news behind him, because he is such a major player. And I mean, just having a guy like Drew McIntyre on your team, that’s a winning team, right there, man. This dude is like one of those utility knives, he could pretty much do it all.
As well as, when you’re crying about being that top guy, not going out there and proving you should be that top guy, that’s something. But Drew, he should be that guy. You look at him, he checks off every damn box. I mean, give him the ball and let him run with it.
BookerT praised Cody Rhodes for his run with the WWE Championship, but went on to say that a change was needed.
Cody’s done very, very well. But I feel like it was time for a change. And itit’s not for me to go on record and talk about, you know, before it actually happened and say, ‘Man, I think it’s time for a change.’ But after the fact looking at it, I think it was time for a change.
