Why Drew McIntyre Winning WWE Title Surprised Hall Of Famer
This WWE Legend recently shared his thoughts on the massive WWE title change last week on SmackDown.
SmackDown last Friday took place in Berlin, Germany, and its main event was the culmination of the feud between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre in a Three Stages of Hell match with the former’s WWE Undisputed title on the line.
As per McIntyre’s stipulations, he wanted a straight wrestling match first, followed by a Falls Count Anywhere match and eventually a Steel Cage match to cap things off.
The match was an exhilarating one in which McIntyre won the first round, and Rhodes won the second. The finish saw an interference from Bloodline member Jacob Fatu, who attacked both stars, but McIntyre sneaked out of the cage to win the match when Fatu was attacking Cody.
Drew McIntyre was crowned the new WWE Undisputed champion, and it’s his third run with the belt.
WWE Legend Jim Ross Considers Drew McIntyre A Worthy Champion.
On a recent episode of his podcast, Grilling JR, Ross revealed that he was “surprised” that the title changed hands and said that Cody might be back with it soon and have a run for it. Ross also praised McIntyre and said that he’s a stud and that the WWE is lucky to have himon the roster to put the title on.
I was a little surprised. Not saying I didn’t like it, but I was surprised that it occurred. So I’m sure that as the cycle evolves, Cody will get another shot at the title. And [he] will be champion again someday, maybe sooner than later. But I don’t think he had a one-off. He’ll be back on the throne sooner than later, I would think.
I got nothing against Drew McIntyre, either. I think Drew McIntyre is a stud, and he’s a key player. So I think I would say that WWE is lucky to have Drew McIntyre on the roster. Because he’s kind of built – if they wanted to change the title for whatever reason, then they got the right guy to handle it.
McIntyre has been in the company for a long time. He’s reliable. He’s got name identity. He looks good. So all good, man. It’s all good. That’s what wrestling is about, the changing of the guard.
