DDP Claims WWE Fans Always Appreciated Cody Rhodes Despite Time In AEW

WWE Hall Of Famer DDP feels that the fans in AEW never quite appreciated what they had in Cody Rhodes, however supports of his former employer always kept an eye on what he was doing.

As well as serving as an Executive Vice President and being one of the founding fathers of the organisation, ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes also appeared as an on-screen talent for the company, going on to have multiple reigns as TNT Champion.

Whilst he spent the majority of his time with the company as a babyface, towards the end of his tenure the AEW crowds seemed to turn on him somewhat, before he eventually announced that he was leaving and made a return to WWE.

Speaking on a recent edition of The Snake Pit podcast, DDP gave his take on how Cody Rhodes was treated by the AEW crowds, noting that they turned on him despite some classic matches.

I couldn’t believe the guy who made all this happen, and he’s the guy that made it happen, how they turned on him… after he took Darby to a 20 minute Broadway… and put Max over and put over so many guys it didn’t make any sense.

Cody Rhodes made his surprise (albeit much speculated) return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, to be the mystery opponent for Seth Rollins.

DDP believes that the fans in WWE had been watching out for what Cody Rhodes had been doing in AEW, which pleased them when he made the move back across.

They watched what he did, and they appreciated him, they wanted him back. Then for the matches that him and Seth Rollins had were just unbelievable, but there’s a guy who’s had a pedigree better than anybody, the American Dream’s kid, and he couldn’t get past this mid-ground. When he was younger he was up a bit higher… but he came right back down and he was never going to go up higher. He had to leave.

Seth Rollins recently discussed when he found out he would be facing the returning Cody Rhodes.
