Darby Allin Not A Fan Of Doing Hundreds Of Moves In A Match
AEW star Darby Allin believes in emotional storytelling in a match rather than multiple moves.
Darby Allin is a wrestler who believes there’s a story behind every move he does. He is known for his stunts and risk-taking, but he strives to provide emotional depth to the moves he executes.
Allin cites WWE Hardcore legend Mick Foley as his inspiration. Foley, albeit with his limited moveset, was a part of many of WWE’s most memorable matches and feuds as he understood how to sell the emotional weight of his character to the audience.
In a new interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Allin says he likes to watch old standout matches without too many big moves or false finishes.
I like to watch wrestling matches that really stand out without a lot of moves, because I’m not a fan of doing 100 big moves a match. It’s fun to see the emotion and how they carry themselves through a match without relying on big moves or big (false finishes). I just watch how they paced things back then. I’d rather sell and do my thing and have emotions.
The Daredevil also admits that since wrestling changed his life, he respects it a lot and has the fear of getting complacent.
Darby Allin Climbed Mt.Everest
Elsewhere in the interview, Allin praises his current wrestling company, AEW, for allowing him to go on completely separate adventures, like climbing Mt. Everest, for instance.
He has also been known to do stunts with Tony Hawk and Travis Pastrana, which he alludes to in the interview
Once that bell rings, it’s pretty much 100 percent what you want to do as a performer. I wouldn’t imagine having the restrictions they have in other companies. And no other company is going to let me climb Mount Everest or do crazy stunts with Tony Hawk or Travis Pastrana. I take full advantage of that.
Allin won his last notable match against Gabe Kidd at AEW Worlds End in December 2025 after returning from an injury hiatus. He most recently wrestled PAC on AEW: Dynamite’s January 14 episode.
