Cody Rhodes Reacts To WWE Fans Booing Him
Cody Rhodes is a babyface but has recently been booed by WWE fans.
Cody Rhodes won the WWE Championship back from Drew McIntyre on SmackDown after the Elimination Chamber PLE. He originally lost the title to The Scottish Psychopath in January.
McIntyre, as WWE Champion, had the fans excited, and they were rallying for Drew to win the title from Cody and booed Rhodes even though he was the babyface.
To make matters worse for Rhodes, the video of him winning the title back from McIntyre has some of the highest dislikes of any WWE video ever published on YouTube, going over 200,000.
The booing for The American Nightmare continued into his latest feud with Randy Orton for WrestleMania 42, where fans wanted to see The Viper win his 15th WWE World Title. Despite Orton brutally attacking Rhodes at the start of the feud and turning heel, the fans continued to cheer for him and booed Rhodes.
Cody Rhodes has spoken out about how he feels when he gets booed, and in his latest What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast episode where Liv Morgan is his guest, he gives the example of a legendary bout between Shawn Michaels and Sycho Sid at Madison Square Garden in the mid 1990s, where Michaels got booed.
Y’Know, lately I get booed a lot, so I’m like “oh, it’s an away game.
But it’s an away game for Shawn Michaels, ’cause the crowd was just about Sid. Y’know, when we just lose ourselves, and we’re not in character anymore, we’re just like ‘yeah’. You can see, and Sid would come out, he’d do one fist pound. But you can tell he’s like, for me? Oh he’s just pounding away, all excited. It’s a legendary match. (54:01 onwards)
Sycho Sid was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2026 ahead of WrestleMania 42.
Cody Rhodes Faces Off With CM Punk On Raw
Rhodes successfully retained his WWE Title at ‘Mania 42 against Randy Orton but injured his eye during the match. A proper update on his eye injury is yet to come, but in the meantime, Rhodes came out to interrupt CM Punk’s promo on the Raw after WrestleMania 42.
The two had a conversation that ended with Punk looking down at Cody’s WWE Title and teasing a possibility of a future match between the two. Rhodes responded with “just say when,” furthering the hype.
If Cody Rhodes’s eye injury turns out to be a serious one, he would have to relinquish his WWE Title, but for now, he is the champion as it stands.
