Cody Rhodes is set to put his Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42.

The Viper has been seen conversing with a mystery caller backstage several times after he turned heel and brutally attacked The American Nightmare during the contract signing segment on WWE SmackDown a few weeks ago.

Fans have been speculating that this mystery caller will play a major role in Orton’s match with Rhodes at the Showcase of Immortals next month.

While Orton has a secret ally, it seems Cody Rhodes may have one in WWE as well. Absent star Kevin Owens recently posted a video on X featuring Rhodes’ plush puppet with his theme song in the background, showing support for Rhodes in his fight against Orton.

Kevin Owens Was Involved In A Storyline With Cody Rhodes And Randy Orton Before His Long Hiatus

Owens was diagnosed with a severe neck and spinal cord injury last year. He has been on hiatus since April 2025 and underwent a successful one-level neck fusion surgery in July 2025.

As of March 2026, he is still recovering. According to reports, WWE is optimistic that he could return at some point in late 2026, though his in-ring future remains uncertain due to the severity of the procedure.

Before going on hiatus, Owens was involved in a heated storyline with Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. Owens was initially friends with Rhodes, but when Rhodes agreed to team up with Roman Reigns to face The Bloodline, cracks began to show, and Owens felt betrayed.

This led to a full-blown rivalry between Owens and Rhodes, with Orton attempting to act as a peacemaker. However, during a confrontation on SmackDown, Owens accidentally struck Orton with an elbow, and Orton retaliated with a punch, turning them into rivals as well.

Kevin Owens and Randy Orton were scheduled to face each other at WrestleMania 41, but the match was canceled at the last minute when Owens was medically ruled out due to his neck injury. Joe Hendry replaced him in an open challenge against Orton at the event.
