CM Punk Issues Blunt Statement About WWE Retirement
CM Punk began his pro wrestling journey in the late 90s and later took a six-year-long break from the wrestling industry after leaving WWE in 2014.
He returned to the wrestling world in 2021 when he signed with AEW. Punk returned to WWE in 2023 at Survivor Series and is currently the World Heavyweight Champion. He is set to defend his title against the 2026 Royal Rumble winner, Roman Reigns, at Night Two of WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas on April 18–19.
Ahead of his upcoming clash with The Original Tribal Chief, Punk sat down with SHAK Wrestling for an exclusive interview. During the interview, he was asked how it feels to be on the cover of WWE 2K26 compared to WWE 2K13.
Punk responded by saying that WWE 2K26’s Showcase mode reflects his full journey from his early days to now. He acknowledged that he’s in the later stage of his career, but still very far from retirement, and has no plans to step away anytime soon.
I think in Showcase with CM Punk, it encompasses my entire career. The beginning, the middle and we’re obviously creeping towards ‘the end’. Not any time soon. Everybody stop asking me, stop freaking out.
But to me it just solidifies the consistency I’ve had over my career. As a top talent, as a huge draw, as somebody with great hair. H/T Fightful
CM Punk Has No Plans To Retire Anytime Soon
Earlier this year, in February, CM Punk had an interview with TJ Henderson and O’Shay Jackson Jr. on No Contest, where he was also asked about retirement.
Punk reiterated what he has been saying for a while, stating that he is not ready to retire yet. He added that he is very much enjoying his time in WWE and wants to continue for a long while before hanging up his boots.
I really don’t know. It’s big in Japanese wrestling, the retirement tour. They’ve done that over there for many, many years. It was just new to Western wrestling fans. Cena did it, and I thought it was brilliant. Saying, ‘This is the last time you’re going to get to come see me. You get to see me wrestle or appear.’
With me, I really don’t know. I almost don’t like talking about it because I don’t think it’s going to be anytime soon. The way our business is, I like to keep some things shrouded in secrecy and mystery.
We’ll have to wait and see. I’m trying to keep myself in one piece because I think I’m on the run of my life and doing the best work I’ve ever done. Why would I want to step away now?
