CM Punk Made Pitch To Be In AEW Blood & Guts Match

CM Punk

CM Punk recently made a pitch to be a part of the upcoming AEW Blood & Guts Match, according to a new report.

The third AEW Blood & Guts Match for the July 19th edition of Dynamite from Boston. As of this writing, The Elite have four wrestlers (Kenny Omega, Adam Page, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) set for the match while the Blackpool Combat Club have four wrestlers set for the match – Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta & Konosuke Takeshita.

In AEW, the Blood & Guts match is contained in a double ring with a cage on top of it like the WarGames concept from the 1980s and 1990s in NWA/WCW days. The match is usually made up of ten people (five on each side) with two wrestlers starting and the others going into the ring at separate intervals. The match can’t be won until every participant in the match has been in the ring.

There are some injury issues involved in this year’s Blood & Guts match because the BCC’s Bryan Danielson has a broken arm, so he can’t compete in the match. Meanwhile, The Elite may have wanted Eddie Kingston on their team, but he’ll be wrestling in Japan as part of the NJPW G1 Climax tournament.

As we covered earlier in the week, it’s expected that The Elite’s friend Kota Ibushi will be the fifth man on that team. Ibushi is a Japanese wrestling legend that is a former IWGP World Champion and a former tag team partner of Omega as part of a team known as The Golden Lovers.

In an interesting twist, the name of CM Punk has come up in rumors about who might join the BCC guys. Fightful Select reports that CM Punk actually offered to be part of the Blood & Guts match even though he has some obvious issues with The Elite group going back to last September at All Out. That’s the night when Punk got into a locker room fight with Omega and The Young Bucks while also verbally berating “Hangman” Adam Page numerous times.

The Fightful story noted that Voices of Wrestling originally reported that CM Punk pitched for himself to be the fifth wrestler on the Blackpool Combat Club team with Fightful confirming that it’s true. It noted that Punk may not have been serious and may not have expected the offer to be accepted. It is known that Punk has wanted to work with The Elite in the past, but he has been told it won’t be happening. There is still some bad blood there.

As the Fightful report continued, they quoted a source saying that “neither team would want him.” Apparently, Jon Moxley wasn’t opposed to the idea of CM Punk being involved.

To conclude the story, Fightful reports that the partners of both teams have already been determined for the Blood & Guts match.
