Chris Benoit’s eldest son made an appearance on AEW: Dynamite.

Chris Benoit was one of WWE’s greatest talents, but his legacy would come to a shocking and tragic end when he committed a double homicide and suicide, in which his wife, son, and Benoit all lost their lives.

Benoit’s name was slowly erased from WWE’s history, and the company came under the microscope once again after the tragic incident in 2007, after a decade at the time, for steroid use.

Benoit’s actions were believed to be due to CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) caused by chronic concussions throughout his career, as shown by studies of his brain. One of Benoit’s signature wrestling moves was the diving headbutt, which meant that he would repeatedly take damage to his head.

WWE later banned the move and changed the product to get a universal PG rating, which would eliminate dangerous maneuvers like chair shots to the head and drawing blood during matches. They also became increasingly strict with drug tests.

Chris Benoit is survived by his son, David Benoit, from his first marriage. David was recently seen by fans backstage at AEW’s Dynamite show.

David has expressed interest in pursuing pro-wrestling as a career, even wanting to do it under the name Chris Benoit Jr. However, many promoters have advised David against using the name Chris Benoit due to his father’s tragic legacy.

Sean Ross Sapp Addresses Chris Benoit’s Son David Benoit’s AEW Appearance

During the Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp answered questions by subscribers about David Benoit’s future in pro wrestling, especially after he was spotted at Dynamite recently.

Although he didn’t rule out the possibility, Sapp said he wouldn’t count on it because he has spoken to people who have said that pro-wrestling wasn’t for David Benoit.

I guess there’s always still a chance, but I wouldn’t count on it… I’d heard he went to Lance Storm’s school briefly and was not quite the natural that his father was. The people that I spoke to said he wasn’t there long and that it didn’t seem like pro wrestling was for him.

He also noted that Smith Hart booked David for a match, with the latter having no formal training. But Chris Jericho, who was Chris Benoit’s good friend, talked David into not doing the match.

Even before that, Smith Hart tried to book him for a show without any formal wrestling training. However, Chris Jericho caught wind of it and urged David to not do the match. Chavo Guerrero pulled from the show as well after being scheduled to team with David. Had Jericho not intervened, things could have been really bad.

However, Sapp closed by saying that David loves wrestling and the doors at both AEW and WWE are open for him.

He did do an interview with Chris Van Vliet where he spoke very candidly about his life, and does seem to really enjoy watching wrestling and being around at shows. He’s always been welcomed at WWE and AEW from what I’ve heard.
