Chelsea Green Wants Ex-WWE Star Back on SmackDown After 7 Years
Chelsea Green wants her husband, Matt Cardona, to return to SmackDown. He was last seen on SmackDown on November 28, 2017.
The erstwhile Zack Ryder had a solid run with WWE from 2006 until he was released in April 2020. During his time there, he managed to hold several titles, like the Intercontinental Championship, United States Championship, and Raw Tag Team Championships.
After his release, Cardona reinvented himself on the independent scene and appeared in several other promotions, including AEW, TNA, and NWA, building a strong reputation for himself as a belt collector and crowd favorite.
Chelsea Green Wants Matt Cardona To Join WWE Full-Time
Recently, Cardona has made a partial return to WWE through the ongoing TNA invasion angle in NXT, where he’s officially presented as part of the TNA roster invading WWE’s NXT brand. This storyline has him locked in a heated rivalry with Josh Briggs.
Last week, he cost Briggs a Team NXT qualifier match against Myles Borne, which escalated tensions between the two. Briggs even went to NXT General Manager Ava to demand a match against Cardona, and she confirmed it.
This seems like WWE is laying the groundwork to bring Matt Cardona fully back into the fold, capitalizing on his momentum from the TNA angle. Adding to the buzz, Cardona’s wife, Chelsea Green, chimed in on social media after the NXT segment aired, expressing her wish to see Cardona back on SmackDown.

Chelsea Green clearly wants to see her husband back on the main WWE programming. She is also optimistic that soon Cardona will join her on the main roster and both of them will work and travel together.
“Now, as we’re entering our ninth year of being together, I would love him at WWE, and I know that that’s his goal. I know he wants to go back and be doing WrestleManias and be traveling with me, and you know, like with all his friends. His best friends are still here, too. So I’m hoping that he gets back. My fingers are also crossed for that. 2026, the year of Matt Cardona, maybe in The Rumble.”
