The former Divas Champion, AJ Lee opened up on her thought process before her blockbuster WWE return last year.

AJ Lee first joined the WWE as a promising young Diva back in 2010. She went on to become one of the most influential women on the roster, who was featured alongside top guys like John Cena, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, and more. She also became the Divas Champion three times during her first run. Her last match of the first run took place in 2015 before she left wrestling and moved on to other ventures.

Over a decade later, AJ Lee made her highly anticipated blockbuster return to the WWE last year. She teamed with her husband, CM Punk, to defeat the team of Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins upon her return. Lee continued her feud with Becky for months and eventually defeated her at Elimination Chamber earlier this year for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. At WrestleMania 42, AJ lost the title back to Becky and has been on a hiatus since then.

AJ Lee recalled her fear before returning to WWE

Speaking with Maurice Benard on State of Mind, AJ Lee reflected on what was going on in her mind while wrestling after the WWE return last year:

My last year wrestling—we talked about that on the last podcast—there was so much happening in my life, and you have all these eyeballs on you, and it’s really high-stakes and high-pressure performance. My brain was at my lowest when it seemed like I was on the top of the world and I was a champion and all this stuff.”

AJ also disclosed that she was scared before going back to wrestle, but later felt proud of herself and overcame her fears:

So, taking 10 years and really taking care of myself and feeling the healthiest I’ve ever felt, then being like, ‘Okay, now go back into wrestling,’ I was really scared of like—well, what’s that going to do? What’s that pressure going to do?”

But I felt so proud of myself for like, ‘Oh, I have the tools now.’ If I wake up anxious or I’m anxious behind the scenes and about to go out through the curtain, I know how to work with it,” Lee revealed. [H/T Ringside News]

Meanwhile, there is no official announcement on when AJ Lee will be returning to the WWE since her last match at WrestleMania 42.
