Randy Orton’s shocking heel turn has set an interesting tone for WrestleMania 42.

The Viper brutally assaulted Cody Rhodes after signing the contract for The Grandest Stage of All. He smashed Rhodes’ face on the steel steps and then hit him with the steel chair.

Orton ended the segment by sitting in the ring with the Undisputed WWE Championship belt while the officials tended to The American Nightmare ringside.

WWE should have turned Cody Rhodes heel, not Randy Orton

On The Coach and Bro Show, Vince Russo and Jonathan Coachman discussed the situation. Russo claimed that Cody Rhodes’ act has turned stale, and Coachman added that Rhodes should have been the one to turn heel, not Randy Orton.

Vince Russo: He got stale. I don’t think he got comfortable. It got stale…I’m telling you, man. Again, I’ve been actively writing JCW for five months. Bro, if somebody’s getting stale, you know it, and you do something about it. You just don’t let the more it goes on, the less and less that person means. He’s gotten stale, bro.

Jonathan Coachman: Turn him heel. Not Randy. Turn him heel. They don’t want to lose the merch and lose all of this kind of stuff. Sometimes you got to do it.

Randy Orton has sent a message ahead of his appearance on WWE SmackDown.
