AEW Backstage Reaction To Ricochet’s Controversy Revealed
The wrestling world has continued to monitor the Ricochet controversy.
The AEW star invited strong criticism after mocking a person with multiple sclerosis on X (Twitter) following his National Championship loss at Revolution.
After AEW’s social account shared a backstage video of the 37-year-old’s meltdown, the fan commented that his acting had not improved. In response, the leader of The Demand took an insensitive jab at the woman.
A few hours later, Ricochet defended his action by laying the blame on the internet wrestling community, stating that they could dish out but could not take a similar jibe.
On March 18, he formally issued an apology, stating that the fan, Sandi, did not deserve such a strong reaction and that he would try to do better going forward.
Elsewhere, Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer reported that Ricochet’s action had put his job in the company in jeopardy, and he might be lucky if he survived the week.
AEW’s Backstage Reaction To Ricochet Revealed
There is no question that what Ricochet wrote to the fan was insensitive, regardless of whether he was pretending to be in character or not.
While AEW speculates on the future course of action, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has shared whether the company’s higher-ups had anything to do with his apology.
An update: I’ve been told that neither AEW nor WBD made Ricochet apologize. AEW officials told him afterwards it was the right thing to do.
It remains to be seen how the fans react after learning that neither Tony Khan nor any authority figure at WBD reprimanded him.
Amid the controversy, the wrestler’s wife and former WWE announcer, Samantha Irvin, deactivated her Twitter account due to constant threats and criticism toward the couple.
