Adam Cole Talks Wrestling Initiation – “I Was Duct Taped To A Turnbuckle”

Adam Cole

Adam Cole detailed his painful introduction into the world of professional wrestling when he was still in high school.

Long before he was an internationally-known wrestling superstar, Adam Cole was a kid trying to break into the world of professional wrestling.

During an appearance alongside his current tag team partner and future main event rival MJF, Cole spoke to Sean Evans on Truth or Dab. When asked what was the most intense wrestling initiation he’d ever taken part of, Adam Cole detailed his early days with CZW while he was still a senior in high school.

“So when I first started training I trained with a company called Combat Zone Wrestling in south Philadelphia. It was known notoriously as being this ultra-violent promotion. I am talking fire, thumbtacks, light tubes, the worst of the worst.

“On my first day at wrestling school, I was still a senior in high school by the way. I was duct taped to a turnbuckle with my shirt off and about 30 grown men chopped me. Not only until I bled, but until I turned purple. So that was quite the initiation. The next day was Thanksgiving so I had to hide that from my parents to let them know yeah, wrestling went great.” (h/t Inside the Ropes)

Elsewhere in the interview, MJF recalled winning a match despite having soiled himself in the ring.
