The team of Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo were stripped of their AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles recently due to multiple cancellations.
AEW wrestlers Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo are a husband & wife tag team that are no longer the AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions after the Mexican promotion chose to strip the couple of their titles.
Sammy and Tay were originally scheduled to appear at AAA’s “Noche De Campeones” event on December 28th, but they were not there. They were supposed to defend the titles against Lady Shani & Octagon Jr and Komander & Sexy Star II.
At the Noche De Campeones event, AAA Head of Talent Relations Konnan explained that Sammy & Tay were stripped of the titles due to canceling appearances three times.
“Sammy & Tay have canceled three times, not twice. They wanted their own referee & Tay wanted her own stylist, so I have made a decision. There were three orders of business: Number One, the titles have now been vacated. Number Two: I have already sent someone to the United States to get the titles. And Number Three: Whoever wins this Triple Threat Mix Tag Match will become the new AAA Mixed Tag Champions.”
Flammer & Abismo Negro Jr. won the match to crown new champions against the teams of Lady Shani & Octagon Jr and Komander & Sexy Star II. The belts were not present at the event because, as Konnan said, they had to get the titles back from Sammy and Tay.
Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo won the titles in April 2022 and held them for 243 days. They were married on August 8th, 2022.
