Sheamus finally opened up on his departure from the WWE after 19 years.

Sheamus had joined the WWE back in 2007 and had a great run in the company. He had multiple World title wins during his tenure and only needed the Intercontinental title to become a grand slam champion. However, The Celtic Warrior has now departed the Stamford-based promotion after spending nearly two decades in the company.

It was also reported that Sheamus was asked to take a pay cut by TKO and WWE, which he refused and decided to leave. The Celtic Warrior being 48 is reportedly a factor for TKO as well:

The big news today is that Sheamus will be leaving WWE soon as his contract is expiring and was offered a pay cut so decided to leave. It’s identical to the Kofi Kingson and Xavier Woods situation. “

The basic thing is TKO is in the business of paying stars incredible amounts of money who move business and less so in paying those who don’t move business, especially given Sheamus is 48 and has been hurt a lot,” Dave Meltzer reported.

Sheamus on his WWE departure

During his recent interview with Adam’s Apple, Sheamus was asked what his plans after his WWE departure are. He said he is enjoying his time off currently:

I’m just enjoying my time off, having a good time. Bringing the missus over to Paris, I’m going back to Dublin to see the family. I’m enjoying my workouts, I feel I’m in the best shape of my life and I’m in a really good place dude it’s been awesome.”

On being asked about the reason for his WWE departure, The Celtic Warrior said some circumstances came up which he can’t talk about:

Some circumstances came up, I can’t really talk about it obviously. 19 years is a long time and good crack.”

Sheamus concluded by recalling when he left his home country, Ireland:

“I left Ireland when I was seven, so I haven’t really had the luxury to go home and see my family and friends. The last couple weeks now I’ve had the chance to restructure that and get back and catch up on birthdays and missed opportunities.” [H/T WrestleTalk]

Well, The Celtic Warrior is on his way out of the WWE now, and only time will tell what his next move will be.
