AAA Hall Of Famer Hospitalized; Undergoes Leg Amputation
A AAA Lucha Libre Hall of Famer recently underwent surgery for leg amputation.
Konnan, real name Carlos Santiago Espada, is known for his long-standing contributions in the Mexican promotion, previously as an active wrestler and currently as the promoter.
In April last year, WWE announced its acquisition of the Lucha Libre company, paving the way for both companies’ talents to be featured on both promotions as per the demands of the storylines.
Currently, Dominik Mysterio, who is also Konnan’s godson, serves as the AAA Mega Champion. He is involved in a feud with El Hijo del Vikingo.
Their upcoming match at Rey de Reyes on March 14 has multiple stipulations attached to it.
On the March 6 taping of SmackDown, El Hijo Del Dr. Wagner Jr., who is the Latin American Champion, challenged Carmelo Hayes for the United States Champion.
Despite Wagner Jr.’s incredible show, he was unable to win the title.
AAA Hall Of Famer Undergoes Leg Amputation
Konnan was inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame in 2025 for his many contributions to the promotion.
He was recently hospitalized in San Diego, California, where one of his legs was amputated due to medical complications.
Konnan has a prolonged history of health issues, including organ failure, cardiovascular issues, and orthopedic procedures.
The news about his condition was first reported by the creator of the creator “El Potro de Acero en el Ring,” which was later corroborated by “El Planchitas,” a collaborator for the Mexican sports publication RÉCORD.
Some reports stated that his other leg may have also experienced complications due to the health problems.
Multiple news publications have claimed that post-surgery, the AAA legend’s health remains fragile.
Everyone at TJR Wrestling wishes Konnan the best and a speedy recovery.
