One former AEW star has reason to celebrate after rejoining WWE as they claim championship gold.

Andrade was released by WWE back in March 2021 after requesting to leave the company after a stint that saw him win both the NXT and United States Championships.

The Mexican star debuted for AEW just three months later at the end of his non-compete period but his time in Tony Khan’s company was plagued with controversy. Andrade was involved in a backstage altercation with Sammy Guevara just a few weeks after CM Punk’s infamous fight with The Elite at All Out. Many believed that Andrade was already looking for a way out of the company back then.

Andrade’s AEW deal ended at the end of 2023 and his final match in the company came at Worlds End when he was screwed by his manager CJ Perry who helped her husband Miro pick up a win.

As many expected, Andrade is now back in WWE, making his return in the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble as the fourth entrant. Fans of the star were no doubt hoping that he would be again more featured in WWE than he was in AEW and he’s now at least found success with a surprising title win.

Andrade Wins First WWE Title Since AEW Exit

Ricochet made history when he became the first-ever WWE Speed Champion but now his reign has turned out to be ironically quick. Two WWE Speed matches were taped alongside SmackDown in Lousiville with the first of those seeing Andrade defeating Tommaso Ciampa to earn a shot at Ricochet’s gold.

Andrade then defeated Ricochet to win the title, the first time he has held gold in the company since losing the US Title in May 2020. The matches will air exclusively on Twitter/X.
