WWE Report: Vince McMahon Furious About The Blood During Lesnar vs. Undertaker At HIAC

Both Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker were bleeding during last night’s WWE Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View. While The Undertaker was bleeding a fair amount from the top of his head, Lesnar bled a lot more. At one point in the match his entire face was covered with blood, which looked as if he was wearing a crimson mask. A backstage insider texted Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com about Vince McMahon’s reaction to the amount of blood spilled. Due to the WWE’s no blood policy and TV-PG rating, the WWE brass is very sensitive to the sight of blood on their programming.

Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn (Executive Vice President) were apparently freaking out throughout the match as they watched from backstage. Dunn was furious about the situation and was demanding WWE doctors to get inside the cell to minimize the blood. A WWE doctor reached Lesnar at one point in the match, cleaning up Brock’s face the best he could. However, when the doctor returned and tried to clean up Lesnar’s face for a second time, Brock threw him to the ground. The doctor did not return after Lesnar’s shove and this was the last we’d see of any WWE doctor for the remainder of the match.

Due to the large amount of bloodshed, many speculated that it came as a result of blading. However, this was not the case. Although they didn’t use blades, The Undertaker and Lesnar drew blood naturally. As he did during WrestleMania 31, Lesnar’s bleeding was caused from running head first directly into the ring post. The Undertaker’s bleeding was caused from Lesnar taking his glove off and punching The Undertaker’s head with his bare fist.

With rumors spreading online of both men blading, WWE issued the following statement:

“WWE programming is TV-PG and we don’t permit intentional bleeding. The communication or contact between our performers and referees is part of our safety protocol. That said, unintentional blood sometimes occurs, and we do our best to minimize.”

I definitely think Lesnar and Taker were busted open the hard way. I highly doubt they would allow the two to carry blades. Plus, you can see the moments where they both started to naturally bleed. I think they both intentionally tried to draw blood though, which is fine because they can get away with it that way. I don’t think you need to have blood involved in a match to make it great. I thought bleeding in the WWE eventually got to a point where it was just being used gratuitously and losing its effect. However, there are certain match types that really benefit from seeing some bloodshed and Hell in a Cell is definitely one. Also, the fact that it rarely happens in the WWE anymore makes it feel that much more special when you do see blood.

As for Vince and Dunn flipping out, I don’t see why they were so angry and shocked. During his time back with the WWE, Lesnar has been busted open many times. At least in my opinion, you’d have to be prepared of the fact that these two may draw blood and if they do just minimize it as best as possible. Maybe Vince and Dunn just reacted that way as to not encourage any of the other wrestlers to try and pull the same stunt.
