WWE Network Introduces ‘Collections’ To Make Browsing Easier; February’s Collections
The WWE Network is introducing an all-new feature called ‘Collections’ that will hopefully enhance your experience with the streaming platform. WWE.com issued the following regarding their network’s new feature.
“Finding your favorites just got easier! Collections is an all-new feature that showcases the very best of what WWE Network has to offer. With an incredible assortment of unforgettable matches and moments right at your fingertips, WWE’s massive video library has never been easier to navigate. New Collections will be added every month for your enjoyment.”
Once you entered your log-in information and are at the WWE Network’s home screen, there are little boxes at the bottom of the screen that navigate you to different videos. Collections has just been added to that section. For instance, your first four sections at the bottom of the screen will now read: Featured, Continue Watching, Watchlist, and Collections. However, I have PlayStation 4 so that’s what it looks like for me. WWE.com had this to say regarding how to access Collections on your own device.
“On Smart TVs, gaming consoles, connected devices and the web, you can find your favorite Collections under the “Shows” menu on WWE Network.
“In the WWE app on mobile devices, click “Watch Network Now” and then click “All Shows” to find your favorite Collections.
“Be sure to update the WWE app to the newest version to start watching Collections now.”
Collections is pretty much just a playlists of various different videos put together by the WWE Network in order to make your browsing experience a little easier and a lot more fun. WWE.com stated that they’ll be new Collections added every month, but this month’s Collections are:
Best of Stone Cold vs. Mr. McMahon
As presumed from the title, this Collection highlights Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mr. McMahon’s popular feud from the late 90s. It begins with Austin’s initial assault on McMahon on September 22, 1997 and concludes with Austin and McMahon’s Steel Cage match on Valentine’s Day 1999.
Best of WWE Network
This Collection is most likely for people who are new to the WWE Network and don’t know where to start. I know HBO Go has something similar called HBO Essentials, or something like that. This Collection compiles a little bit of everything the WWE Network has to offer; such as the latest WrestleMania, New Day’s Table for 3, the debut episode of Breaking Ground, NXT Takeover Brooklyn, an episode of the Stone Cold Podcast, Swerved and much more.
Celebrating Black History
This Collection compiles some of the greatest matches and moments from the biggest and most popular black wrestlers in history. This Collection also includes a terrific Legends of Wrestling special titled The Soul of Wrestling. It’s from 2009 when WWE On Demand used to do their Legends of Wrestling series. It was a great series that I wish they’d bring back. It would be a roundtable discussion featuring a panel of WWE Hall of Famers and wrestling Legends. Each episode had a different topic. The Soul of Wrestling episode included in this Collection features Dusty Rhodes, Tony Atlas, Cowboy Bill Watts, Theodore Long and host Jim Ross.
Greatest Matches Ever
This is a tough category and one that will obviously spark a lot of debate as to what does and does not belong in the Collection. Only 10 matches are currently a part of this Collection, but they’ll most likely add more. The 10 matches the WWE Network has chosen are:
1. Ricky Steamboat vs. Ric Flair at Chi-Town Rumble (02/20/1989)
2. I Quit Match – Terry Funk vs. Ric Flair at Clash of Champions IX (11/15/1989)
3. War Games – Sting’s Squadron vs. The Dangerous Alliance at WrestleWar (05/16/92)
4. Ladder Match – Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon at WrestleMania X (03/20/94)
5. Steel Cage Match – Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart at SummerSlam (08/29/94)
6. Shawn Michaels vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 14 (03/29/98)
7. The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania X-Seven (04/01/01)
8. John Cena vs. CM Punk at Money in the Bank (07/17/11)
9. Hell in a Cell Match – The Undertaker vs. Triple H at WrestleMania XXVIII (04/01/12)
10. John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam (08/18/13)
Brock Lesnar: Road to the Undisputed Title
Highlights Brock Lesnar’s initial run with World Wrestling Entertainment on his road to become Undisputed WWE Champion. This Collection starts with Lesnar’s debut on March 18, 2002 and culminates with his bout against The Rock at SummerSlam 2002.
TLC Tag Teams
Focuses solely on the classic feud between The Hardy Boyz, Edge & Christian, and The Dudley Boyz. Includes all three of their classic Triple Threat Tag Team TLC Matches as well as many more matches between the three duos.
Mark’s reaction: I stumbled across Collections over the previous weekend and was pleasantly surprised. It’s kind of similar to how WWE On Demand used to have new categories of matches every month with a different theme attached to it. It seems like the WWE Network is going along that same route but improving upon the idea with Collections.
WWE.com didn’t really clarify this in their article or not, but I hope they keep each Collection and just add more Collections every month, rather than replacing February’s Collections with a whole new set of Collections in March. WWE On Demand used to do just replace material every month, which was fine for what it was. However, I’m hoping the network can just keep everything in one spot.
Another reason I like Collections is because it helps me revisit old moment or matches in wrestling that I probably wouldn’t have searched on my own or have just forgot about until seeing it in this new section. For instance, something like Brock Lesnar’s WWE debut was cool to go back and watch. I probably wouldn’t have searched for it if I didn’t see it in Collections, but I’m happy I got to revisit it.
