Tony Khan Scraps Title At AEW Dynasty

Tony Khan AEW Dynasty

AEW Dynasty saw plenty of championships up for grabs but one match could have spelled the end for one title in the company.

Swerve Strickland made history at Dynasty by winning the AEW World Title for the very first time. There was also a huge win for The Young Bucks as they received some surprise help to defeat FTR and win the AEW Tag Team Championship.

There were two titles up for grabs on the Zero Hour pre-show as Jay White and The Gunns put their ROH Six Man Tag Team Title up against The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass’ AEW Trios Championship. In the end, The Bang Bang Gang walked away with all the gold when White pinned Daddy Ass and it seems the match now means one less championship in Tony Khan’s promotions.

Tony Khan Cuts Title From AEW

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that the way AEW presented the match between The Acclaimed, Daddy Ass & The Bang Bang Gang, he believes one title is now disappearing and thinks that can only be a good thing:

They did announce that the belts were unified. They made it like one set of belts are going away so it sounded like a good thing. Jay White and The Gunns have both sets of belts but they called it a unification match and not winning separate belts. We’ll see how long that lasts. Those things very often in pro wrestling – they say they’re unification matches and they change their mind months later and split them up again but God knows AEW doesn’t need more belts.

AEW formed the Continental Crown back in December when Eddie Kingston brought together the AEW Continental Championship, the ROH World Title, and the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship. However, that Crown has been separated with Kazuchika Okada now holding the AEW Continental Title, Mark Briscoe winning the ROH World Title, while Kingston still holds the NJPW portion of the Crown.
