WWE WrestleMania 39 Night 1 Main Event Confirmed
Everyone knew heading into WrestleMania that Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns going at it for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship would main event Sunday night’s show but the headline match for Saturday remained to be seen.
Speculation suggested that it came down to a choice in WWE between women’s Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley challenging Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship and The Usos defending their WWE Tag Team Title against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.
Sami Zayn’s struggles with The Bloodline have been the talk of WWE over the last six months and many feel that the story between himself, Owens, and The Usos deserves the headline slot.
Conversely, Charlotte Flair, at least, feels that if the men’s Royal Rumble winner headlines WrestleMania then the women’s winner should as well which would put Ripley and The Queen in the box seat to go on last.
However, several reports have now suggested that the WWE Tag Team Championship match will indeed headline Saturday night, making it the first tag team title match of any kind to main event a WrestleMania show. It will also be the first tag team match to headline ‘Mania since the first edition of the show when Hulk Hogan teamed with Mr. T to defeat ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper and ‘Mr. Wonderful’ Paul Orndorff.
