WWE Announces Change to Women’s Tag Team Title Match at WrestleMania – Updated Lineup

The latest change to WWE’s WrestleMania 38 card will see three teams challenging the Women’s Tag Team Champions instead of just two.

Going into last night’s WWE Smackdown, there were three teams competing in the Women’s Tag Team Title match at WrestleMania. The Women’s Tag Team Champions Carmella & Zelina Vega were going to defend against Sasha Banks & Naomi as well as Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan. However, that has changed.

During a very entertaining tag team match between Banks & Naomi vs. Ripley & Morgan, there was an interruption when the heel duo of Natalya & Shayna Baszler went into the ring to attack both teams. When both teams fought back, Carmella & Zelina Vega went into the ring to even the odds to help Natalya & Baszler. After it was over, Natalya & Baszler stared at the champions to let them know they wanted in the match at WrestleMania.

During a backstage segment after the match, WWE Official Sonya Deville talked to Natalya & Baszler to let them know they have been added to the Women’s Tag Team Title match at WrestleMania. The storyline explanation is that Deville is a heel WWE Official that has had issues with Naomi for months, so she is going to do what she can to make it tough on Naomi to leave WrestleMania as a champion.

All of this means that the Women’s Tag Team Title match at WrestleMania will be Carmella & Zelina Vega defending their titles against Sasha Banks & Naomi, Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan and Natalya & Baszler. It’s possible that WWE adds even more teams, but most likely it will be a Fatal 4-Way match.

Natalya & Baszler have been Women’s Tag Team Champions in the past although that’s been with different partners. Baszler was a two-time Women’s Tag Team Champion with Nia Jax while Natalya was a Women’s Tag Team Champion with Tamina.

There are some other matches likely to be announced for WrestleMania as we sit here two weeks away from the big show.

* Seth Rollins vs. Cody Rhodes. While it has been reported that Cody has signed with WWE, it’s unknown if WWE will announce the match before WrestleMania or simply have Cody appear at WrestleMania to have the match in a situation similar to the Hardy Boyz return in 2017.

* Finn Balor vs. Damian Priest for the US Title. Balor beat Priest for the title and Priest has beaten Balor in a non-title match. They will likely be part of the WrestleMania card.

* Kofi Kingston, King Xavier Woods & a partner vs. Sheamus, Butch & Ridge Holland. Big E would have been the guy teaming up with his New Day buddies, but he’s out of action with a broken neck. As for Woods, he returned to action at live events last weekend, so he should be back on Smackdown very soon. WWE could opt to go with Intercontinental Champion Ricochet as a teammate of Kofi & Woods since there doesn’t appear to be an obvious match for Ricochet right now.

Another change is likely going to see Alpha Academy added to the Raw Tag Team Title match that will see RK-Bro defending against The Street Profits.
