WWE Star Faced Locker Room Heat After Winning World Title
Winning a world championship brings honor and pride for a wrestler, but it has a flipside, too.
Trick Williams is a former 2-time NXT Champion. Additionally, he has held the TNA World Championship as well for 140 days; in fact, he is the first WWE wrestler to do so.
It was during his TNA title reign that he was tested as far as his camaraderie with his peers in the Tennessee-based promotion went.
While speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast recently, the 31-year-old revealed the details about his struggles while serving as the TNA World Champion.
Trick Williams claimed that the wrestlers there hated seeing a talent from another promotion carrying their championship.
Ah, they hated me, man. They hated me every second. I mean, I get it. I understand it. You know what I mean? A good, young-looking, dark brother like myself coming in their brand and, you know, taking their title, you know what I mean? Cutting diss tracks on them. Right.
There wasn’t nothing to like about me, you know what I’m saying? So I get it, but you know, sometimes that’s what’s best for business. And, you know what I mean?
The real ones understood what was best for business. Shout out to Top Dollar. I mean, excuse me, AJ Franchise, you know, he understood, like, hey, hey, you know, we can go somewhere with this movement, you know what I’m saying? So he’s probably the only one who understood the ball.
Trick Williams Secures An Appearance At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
On the January 16 episode of SmackDown, Trick Williams fought Matt Cardona in a WWE Championship #1 Contenders Qualifying match.
While Cardona started strong, Williams came back stronger and dominated the majority of the bout, winning it after hitting his Trick Shot finisher.
As a result, he joins Randy Orton, Damien Priest, and Sami Zayn to earn the right to challenge Drew McIntyre at the Royal Rumble. Their four-way match will be at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24.
