“I Had Many Threats Of Physical Violence,” Says Personality After Segment With WWE’s Seth Rollins
A friend of Seth Rollins shared more about their “fight” on the NFL Network.
The former 6-time WWE World Champion Seth Rollins was back in the ring at WrestleMania 42 when he faced Gunther in a great match. It was Seth’s first match in over six months since suffering a serious shoulder injury that required surgery.
Unfortunately for Rollins, he lost to Gunther because Bron Breakker returned from injury to cost him the match.
In addition to his WWE career, Rollins has regularly appeared on the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football show since it’s in Los Angeles, where he lives most of the time with his wife, Becky Lynch. Rollins has been appearing on the show for over a year since he’s a huge NFL fan and knows what he’s talking about.
During an argument on April 23rd, the day of the NFL draft, Rollins angrily walked off the set because of an argument with co-host Kyle Brandt, who mentioned Seth’s wife, WWE’s Becky Lynch, who is the Women’s Intercontinental Champion after winning at WrestleMania, unlike Rollins.
Rollins: “Yeah, you know what? I don’t really appreciate this. I don’t have to do this. I don’t have to be on your show. I do want to be here, but not when I’m treated like this. I don’t have to do this. You want to steal every segment? You want to steal all the show, that’s your thing…”
Brandt: “Why don’t you steal one, I’m waiting…”
Rollins: “I’m here right now and actually have a segment, so you don’t have to look at me…”
Brandt: “Seth’s gonna go, maybe we can get Becky to come in and actually win something for us. That’s how it works for you guys, so maybe she can do the segment. He’s taking his ear piece off — what are you doing?”
Rollins: “I told you, you can do the rest by yourself. You can do the rest by yourself.”
Brandt: “Oh, thank God. Finally. This is going worse than you and Paul Heyman…”
The next day, Seth Rollins and Kyle Brandt revealed that it was all in good fun and just a classic pro wrestling work. They also mentioned that high-ranking officials in WWE asked Rollins if it was a real situation.
NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt Wanted To Do Wrestling Promo With Seth Rollins Because He’s A Fan
During an appearance on the SI Media podcast, Kyle Brandt gave more insight into his fake argument with Seth Rollins.
“I’ve worked with Seth [Rollins] for over a year and consider him a friend in the industry. Love him. Loved him before I met him. I knew it was going to be he and I at the Draft, just alone at the desk. It’s me and a pro wrestler at the Draft. We have to bring something better than ‘Where is Sonny Styles going to land on Thursday?’ We have to put on some kind of show.
I like the old WWF. I like the heels. I text Seth, ‘Can we do a work? I’ve always wanted to do that. It’s a fantasy of mine.’ He goes, ‘Yeah, do you have an idea?’ Seth is up for anything. I started piecing it together and saw we were going to be talking about [Aaron] Rodgers. Seth famously hates Rodgers.
There was this question about Seth doing WrestleMania, where he’s almost 40, and Rodgers playing this year, and he’s 42, which one is more difficult? I was like, ‘This is it.’ Seth and I are texting, and I’m like, ‘I’ll push you. I think you should walk off.’ ‘Great.’ We tell very few people. We told the producer of Good Morning Football so he doesn’t hit a panic button, and I texted a few bosses, a boss at ESPN, a new boss, and a boss at NFL Network. Seth let a few people know.”
After the “fight’ with Seth Rollins, Kyle Brandt revealed he received threats of violence.
“Over the next 24 hours, it was very strange. I don’t regret it at all, but I didn’t think I was going to be that much of a heel. I thought it was going to go ‘Seth and Kyle have a fight. Seth leaves.’ It was, ‘Kyle bullies Seth off the set and goes way below the belt and insults him until he leaves. Kyle is a prick.’ It was everyone. The wrestling fans went nuts. I had many threats of physical violence in my mentions.
All that stuff, which now I can laugh about. I had industry people being like, ‘What was that? What did he do to you?’ There was disappointment in how rude I was to Seth. The problem was, we committed to 24 hours.
The other funny thing is Seth and I had to go to some of the same engagements throughout that day, including the Draft. We couldn’t be around each other. I was even thinking, ‘Do I go and throw a drink in Seth’s face? Do we escalate it?’ We just left it where it was. The next day, we do the dramatic hug and that was it. It was one of the weirdest 24 hours of my career because everyone was so mad at me.”
Up next for Seth Rollins in WWE is a match against his former protege, Bron Breakker. The two men will clash at Backlash on May 9th.
