WWE has announced 13 matches so far for WrestleMania 42. Seven matches are scheduled for Night One on April 18, while six matches have been confirmed for Night Two on April 19.

Earlier this month, renowned journalist Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that WWE was internally discussing adding an IYO SKY vs. Asuka singles match to the Showcase of the Immortals. That would bring the total number of matches at WrestleMania 42 to 14, with seven matches on each night.

“Iyo Sky and Asuka is probable from what I’m told. There’s gonna be 14 total matches. Seven on each night. I think last year it was six on each night. They’re adding a match. I think it was going to be six and they’re adding to seven because they’re going an hour earlier. And Asuka and Iyo Sky, from what I understand, is right now match number 14 out of 14. So it’s not like it’s not like 100%, but it’s probable,” Meltzer reported.

However, with WrestleMania 42 less than a week away, the Stamford-based promotion has yet to officially announce the IYO SKY vs. Asuka match. This has led many fans to believe that WWE may have quietly scrapped the bout.

A curious fan on Twitter asked Cory Hays of BodySlam about the status of the match. In response, Hayes stated that, to his knowledge, WWE has not officially scrapped the match and is still planning to add it to the card.

“I’m under the belief it’s not officially scrapped yet,” Cory tweeted.

WWE WrestleMania 42 Match Could Change At Last Minute Due To Nikki Bella

The potential IYO SKY vs. Asuka match reportedly depends heavily on Nikki Bella’s medical clearance. Bella suffered an ankle injury during a tag team match alongside Brie Bella against Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair on the March 27 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

She was later seen wearing a walking boot, and on the April 6 episode of Monday Night Raw, Michael Cole confirmed that she is currently undergoing rehab.

“Nikki Bella suffered that ankle injury a couple weeks ago and she’s undergoing efforts to rehab in time to compete for the match at WrestleMania. So, good luck to Nikki as she gets ready for WrestleMania 12 nights away,” Cole announced.

Dave Meltzer recently provided an update on Nikki Bella’s WrestleMania 42 status, stating that it is “too close to call” at this point.

The Bella Twins are currently scheduled to compete in a Fatal Four-Way match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against Nia Jax & Lash Legend, Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, and Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss.

According to reports, if Nikki is not medically cleared in time, The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) could replace The Bella Twins in the tag title match. However, if Nikki is cleared, WWE is expected to move forward with a singles match between IYO SKY and Asuka.

Therefore, Nikki Bella’s medical clearance remains the key deciding factor whether the IYO SKY and Asuka bout gets added to the Mania match card.
