WWE recently underwent a massive wave of roster cuts as part of its post–WrestleMania 42 spring cleaning. Kairi Sane was one of the superstars who were let go from the promotion.

Sane’s release did not sit well with many fans, as she was released before her high-profile storyline with Asuka and IYO SKY got any real payoff.

Following the release of the four-time champion, the WWE Universe expressed dissatisfaction over the decision and started a #WeWantKairi trend on social media, hoping that WWE would bring her back, similar to what they did with R-Truth last year.

However, WrestleVotes has noted that WWE might not cave in this time and bring Kairi back. The report also stated that WWE is hoping the #WeWantKairi trend will fade quickly, similar to how the #WeWantCross trend died down soon after Karrion Kross’ release last year:

“The big part here is—could we see a reversal much like R-Truth? No. They didn’t want to bring Truth back—they caved in, broke down, and said, ‘Come on back.’ You can’t do that again within a calendar year, because every time the critics or voices get too loud, people are going to expect that talent to get brought back. The ‘#WeWantKross’—that died. This, ‘#WeWantKairi’—they’re hoping it dies, and that’s that.”

Potential Reason Behind Kairi Sane’s WWE Release

According to reports, WWE and TKO released more than 20 superstars in April to maximize profitability and cut underutilized talent. However, Dave Meltzer reports that Kairi’s release had nothing to do with financial reasons and was likely because she had indicated a desire to move back to Japan:

“The Kairi thing, the reason she was cut was I think she had kinda indicated that she wanted to move back (to Japan). The reality is, this is not a money issue. This company makes… whatever it is. The revenue between UFC and WWE, and throwing everything in, the revenue’s in the billions of dollars.”
