Nikki Bella has confirmed that she’s dealing with an ankle injury and shared more about what happened.

On the March 27th edition of WWE SmackDown, the WWE Hall of Fame tag team of The Bella Twins – Nikki & Brie Bella – picked up a big win over former Women’s Tag Team Champions, Charlotte Flair & Bliss. Brie got a rollup on Bliss for the win, which came after Lash Legend cheap-shotted Bliss with a punch.

Unfortunately for Nikki Bella, she suffered an ankle injury during the match. Even though she was hurt, Nikki fought through it and was there for Brie during the match.

There was an update on the April 6th edition of WWE Monday Night Raw as announcer Michael Cole mentioned Nikki’s injury.

Nikki Bella suffered that ankle injury a couple weeks ago and she’s undergoing efforts to rehab in time to compete for the match at WrestleMania. So, good luck to Nikki as she gets ready for WrestleMania 12 nights away.

At WrestleMania 42, The Irresistible Forces team of Lash Legend & Nia Jax will defend the Women’s Tag Team Titles against The Bella Twins, Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss, and Bayley & Lyra Valkyria. However, it’s possible that Nikki’s injury keeps her out of the match.

During an appearance on IRL with Angie Martinez, Nikki spoke about her frustrations with the injury.

“I’ve been super bummed out about it. So, as of now, it’s a sprained ankle. We don’t know if it’s a high sprain or something else, so I got an MRI. I’m waiting for the results.”

Ankle injuries are different from injuries to other body parts because a high ankle sprain can lead to a longer rehab process and more time off, whereas a lower ankle sprain is something athletes can come back from sooner.

Nikki Bella Told Brie The Ankle Was Broken

The Bella Twins would go on to talk more about Nikki’s injury as Nikki explained what happened, while Brie claimed that Nikki thought it was a broken ankle.

Nikki: “What happened in our match on Friday—so we had our second tag match back together, and it happened right in the beginning of the match, and I finished the match. I can’t believe I finished the match—and I stressed out. My poor sister.”

Brie: “I mean, this is my second match back in eight years—so much anxiety—and her first tag. So she tags me, and as I’m about to come in, she goes, ‘Oh, I think I broke my ankle.’ And we’re on live television. I was like, ‘Huh? Do we need to call—?’”

Nikki: “Did I really think it was broken? I thought it possibly could be, because I’ve had a break before, and the rush that was going through my calf—and I couldn’t put weight on it—I was like, ‘Oh, I think I just broke my ankle.’”

Nikki Bella went on to express more about her concern that the ankle was broken on SmackDown.

“Just how it felt, I knew something was wrong. But I knew this was starting the story at WrestleMania, so in my head, I knew there were girls in the back waiting to run in. I knew there were a lot of women a part of this match, and I didn’t want to let anyone down.”

“But I still had like 10–12 minutes to go, and I was like, ‘My goodness.’ So every time I would tag in, I was like, ‘No, it’s really broken, Brie—like, it’s broken.’ And the girl who we’re beating up is like, ‘Uh, put me in a hold.’ Like, she’s like, ‘Wait, is her ankle broken?’”

Even though Nikki Bella has suffered a broken neck that required surgery earlier in her career, she claimed this ankle injury felt worse.

“That was probably the worst pain I’ve ever felt—even over a broken neck. Putting someone in a double suplex—with your ankle—yeah, I had no choice but to put weight on it.”

If Nikki Bella can’t compete at WrestleMania, it has been reported that WWE may sub in Asuka & Kairi Sane as the fourth team in the Women’s Tag Team Title match.
