WWE legend Adam Copeland opens up about his plans after AEW retirement.

Copeland and his tag team partner Christian Cage are set to challenge FTR for the AEW Tag Team Championship in a Tag team “I Quit” match at AEW Double or Nothing, which will take place on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York. If Cage and Cope lose, they must retire as a tag team.

Adam Copeland Is Interested In Remaining With AEW Backstage

Ahead of their match, Copeland sat down with Westwood One Sports, where he was asked to address his post-retirement plans. Adam stated that he wants to remain a part of AEW in a backstage creative role. However, he added that if he doesn’t get to continue his journey with AEW after he retires, then he’ll use acting to scratch his “creative itch.”

“That’s up to Tony and what he may need. That’s stuff that I don’t know. Where would you need me? Then I think we’d just discuss it at that time and go ‘Okay, well yeah, that sounds like fun’ or ‘I just want to sit on my deck or go jet skiing or kayaking or something.’ I don’t know.

“But I’m a creative person and I know that no matter what, I’ll need to scratch that creative itch. Whether that’s just purely acting or maybe it’s helping with creative in AEW and still continuing in acting. I don’t know, but I do know in terms of the workplace, I love going there. It wouldn’t be like twisting my arm to keep me around.”

Adam Copeland’s AEW contract is set to expire in October 2026. According to rumors, Tony Khan is planning his official retirement match for WrestleDream on October 18, 2026, at Scotiabank Arena in his hometown of Toronto.

However, it should be noted that these are just rumors, and nothing has been officially announced yet.
