WWE Makes Huge Change With WrestleMania 42 Plans

WWE WrestleMania 42 Poster

WWE has massively changed course with its plans for WrestleMania 42.

In recent months, reports had suggested that WWE’s main plans for WrestleMania 42 had been set in stone. It was widely believed that Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns would clash again in the main event, while the other headliner was likely to be between Seth Rollins and CM Punk. Rollins has made clear his ambition to return from injury in time for the event.

However, that is now all up in the air.

WWE Want To Shake Things Up

Drew McIntyre captured the WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes in a 3 Stages of Hell match on SmackDown. And it seems that victory means bigger things moving forward, as far as WWE’s plans are concerned.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed when the decision was made to put the WWE Title on Drew McIntyre and how that change marked a bigger shift in thinking for WrestleMania 42:

WrestleMania changed on Wednesday of last week when they made the decision to go with the McIntyre title win. That wasn’t decided until Wednesday. I don’t know what the new matches are, although they may be doing a three-way with McIntyre, Jacob Fatu, and Cody Rhodes. That may not be at Mania, but that’s kind of – that’s not even 100% but I was told it was a possibility. The Cody Rhodes/Roman Reigns thing is probably not happening, but whatever it is, the WrestleMania plans changed on Wednesday when they made the decision to change the championship.

I think it was one of those things where they wanted to shake things up, felt it was too predictable. Drew McIntyre, they wanted to get the championship on him. It makes sense with them being in Europe, basically, to shake things up and get some surprises going.
