WWE Did Not Allow Roman Reigns To Be The Tribal Chief

Roman Reigns’ work as The Tribal Chief has to be some of the best work he has done in WWE.

While he was popular as a member of The Shield, Reigns’ return in 2020 and holding the top championship till WrestleMania 40 was quite the feat. Furthermore, he defended the title(s) against almost the entire roster.

In fact, The OTC has revealed that working as a heel is where he feels being himself and is much more comfortable with the character.

Roman Reigns always wanted to be The Tribal Chief

Michael Hayes made an appearance on Six Feet Under with The Undertaker. During that conversation, Hayes revealed that Reigns always wanted to be The Tribal Chief, but WWE did not allow it. He did not speak up for himself at that time. However, he finally did in 2020, and it truly built The Bloodline storyline, which is still in play to this day.

You know I’ve had Roman’s matches for years, and he’s one of the ones that has the old school in him. He could’ve gone through the riot. He’s got an edge to him. Well, yeah, it did take a while. He always wanted to be that Tribal Chief. He just wasn’t allowed to be. You know what I mean? He didn’t know how to speak up for himself at the time, but he’s doing okay.

Currently, Roman Reigns is scheduled for WrestleMania 42 Night 2. He will be in the main event, against CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship.
