WWE Champion Blasts Pat McAfee’s SmackDown Promo – “A Lot Of Us Weren’t Happy”
A current championship wrestler in WWE wasn’t pleased with Pat McAfee’s SmackDown promo.
It was a week ago, on the April 3rd edition of SmackDown, when Pat McAfee was revealed as Randy Orton’s trusted advisor who helped motivate Orton to go to the dark side for his WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 42.
That promo from McAfee, talking about how WWE as a business has been ruined and that he’s going to save it with Orton, got a lot of attention. There were even reports that WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, didn’t have much to do with McAfee’s promo; it was instead organized by TKO’s CEO, Ari Emanuel.
Most WWE superstars remained silent about what McAfee said, but former WWE World Champion and current WWE Tag Team Champion Damian Priest spoke candidly to Gabby LaSpisa about it and said he hated it.
“It sucks. Not a fan. You know, somebody who knows Pat, get along with him. But for me, that’s not my taste. I don’t think it helps anything. He didn’t need it.
So for me, and, you know, I’m sure a lot of people aren’t going to be happy that I said that, but in the locker room specifically, like a lot of us weren’t happy and that’s real.”
Damian Priest Didn’t Like Some Language Used By Pat McAfee On WWE SmackDown
As he continued, Damian Priest made the point that Pat McAfee’s use of strong language in his promo isn’t fair, given that others are limited.
“Like I was asked by some of the younger talent, like, what did I think? And I thought it was bull. We’re a PG show, right? But he could come in and he could throw F-bombs and say whatever he wants.
For me, that’s like one of those things that so many other talent, even from one word, can benefit. And it’s like, wow, now they’re up here.”
Not one to mince words, Priest admitted that McAfee’s promo pi**ed him off.
“Instead, you take somebody who’s not even here all the time and gets away with saying something like that, who doesn’t even need it. Not going to lie, it kind of pi**ed me off.” (h/t Ringsidenews)
While Pat McAfee isn’t scheduled for a match at the upcoming WrestleMania 42 PLE, he will likely be in Randy Orton’s corner to support Orton against WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. It has been reported that McAfee is likely going to team up with Orton at WWE Backlash on May 9th.
In the short term, Pat McAfee said he’ll be on the April 10th WWE SmackDown in San Jose, and he has a massive surprise for the show.
Randy Orton is gonna save the business for future generations of wrestling fans. That’s so incredible to think about.. Very rarely do these types of obviously monumental moments happen in our lifetime.
My daughter and baby boy on the way are gonna have a WWE that is thriving.. a WWE that is the greatest form of entertainment on Earth, bar none, because the top of the company is gonna be exactly what it’s supposed to be.
A man sent DIRECTLY from the Wrestling AND Sports Entertainment Gods will be properly leading the business once again.
It is my honor to serve the future generations of wrestling fans as I motivate The 🐐, Randy Orton to not only become 15 TIME WORLD CHAMPION but also, become a man who saved his family’s business.
WrestleMania Saturday Night is gonna be The most Historic Night in the HISTORY of sports.. SO MUCH ON THE LINE. Multi-Generational pressure comes to a head. Randy will prevail… for all of us 🙏🏻
See also… I have a MASSIVE SURPRISE to announce tomorrow night.
You’ll start thanking me and Randy soon enough for all of this.
SEE YOU IN SAN JOSE
There’s no word yet on whether Damian Priest will be on SmackDown in San Jose, but he does have a tag team name with R-Truth as the new WWE Tag Team Champions.
