Damian Priest & R-Truth Given Surprising Name As WWE Tag Team Champions
Damian Priest and R-Truth have been given a very unique name as the WWE Tag Team Champions.
There’s a bit of a rocky past between Damian Priest and R-Truth, going back to when Priest was on The Judgment Day on Raw, while Truth thought he was in the group. It led to many funny segments between Truth and the group.
Now that Priest is a babyface just like R-Truth, their past friendship has made them allies on the SmackDown brand.
On the March 23rd edition of WWE SmackDown, Damian Priest & R-Truth beat the MFTs to become the WWE Tag Team Champions. Even though they hadn’t been a regular tag team for a long time, they earned the title shot by winning a Gauntlet Match.
In their first WWE Tag Team Title defense, Damian Priest & R-Truth retained their titles against The Miz & Kit Wilson on April 3rd because Danhausen “cursed” referee Dan Engler. That led to Engler suffering a cramp during the match and not being able to count with his right arm when Miz & Wilson went for the win. Priest & Truth found a way to come back to win.
Damian Priest & R-Truth Are “Wepa Up”
Since Priest and Truth are the WWE Tag Team Champions, they have also been given new WWE merchandise and a team name: “Wepa Up.” Since Truth likes to say “What’s Up” (for decades) and Priest uses the word Wepa, which is Spanish slang for “Yeah” or general excitement, WWE has decided to combine the two words for their tag team name.

The Wepa Up team is not currently advertised for a match or segment on the April 10th edition of WWE SmackDown, but they could still appear on the show. They also aren’t scheduled to be in a WrestleMania match, even though Priest is a former World Champion, and Truth has been in WWE for the past 25 years.
