WWE Champion Wants To Destroy Rey Mysterio’s AAA Legacy

A WWE star wants to make fans forget Rey Mysterio.

Ahead of WrestleMania 41 night one, WWE announced the acquisition of the famous Mexican Promotion AAA. Michael Cole broke the news during the WrestleMania 41 pre-show, shortly after a new Worlds Collide event involving talent from NXT and AAA was announced.

This has opened up a whole new world of crossover possibilities, and it’s already been announced that several WWE and TNA stars will be heading to AAA in June.

However, for some WWE stars, the partnership represents something a little more special. For example, for Dominik Mysterio, it potentially gives him the chance to go and wrestle for the company where his legendary father began to make his name in the early 1990s before signing with ECW and later WCW.

As a result, in a new interview with Jim Varsallone, Dominik talked up the importance of the deal, while expressing his surprise at the news.

“Honestly, it was very surprising. WWE had the small partnership with TNA, so in my head, I would’ve assumed that they would have done another type of partnership with AAA. Doing these small partnerships where we mix and we let each other borrow talent and stuff like that.

But, I never — I didn’t think it would have been possible, right? They actually purchased AAA. To me, that’s so huge. That is, if not the biggest company out in Mexico, that has a history with not only the Mysterio name but so many other lineages and luchadors that have so much history.

The fact that we can bring that into play now and not only that but what we can do out in Mexico and what Mexico can do out here in the US now like talent-wise. It’s such a huge blessing for us and for everyone around.”

Dominik Mysterio Wants To “Sh*t On The Legacy” Of Rey Mysterio

Continuing on, Dominik said it had always been his dream to wrestle in Mexico as part of AAA, but now he has an even bigger motivation. Simply put, he wants to continue to destroy his father’s legacy in every company possible.

“For me, before I even started wrestling and training, it was always a dream of mine to be able to wrestle in Mexico with AAA, as part of AAA cause I’ve always wanted to continue the Mysterio legacy and do it better than he did in every way, shape, and form.

I am currently in the WWE and I’m already better than Rey Mysterio, right? I would love to go to AAA and cement my legacy there and make it better than what he had already done.

I’m going to down to AAA and sh*t all over Rey Mysterio so the name that you remember coming out of AAA, Mexico, WWE, whatever, TNA, anything — you hear the word Mysterio, you think Dominik Mysterio.”

Rey Mysterio is currently out of action after suffering a torn abductor muscle on the eve of WrestleMania 41. The veteran had been due to face El Grande Americano, but his place was taken by Rey Fenix.

Mysterio has since undergone surgery, and he’s expected to be out for between four and six months.
