Will Ospreay is ready for his official AEW debut match after competing in a classic match that Tony Khan was in attendance for.

At the Rev Pro Wrestling High Stakes 2024 event on Sunday night in London, Will Ospreay competed in his last independent wrestling show booking before he officially joined All Elite Wrestling.

It was announced in November 2023 that Will Ospreay had chosen to sign with AEW after spending the last eight years with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). However, Ospreay had to complete his final bookings with NJPW and other promotions before he would start with AEW.

The Rev Pro event saw Ospreay challenge Michael Oku for the Rev Pro Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship. They went on to have a 40+ minute match that saw Oku win with a half-crab submission that led to Ospreay tapping out. AEW’s Owner/President Tony Khan was there to witness the match as well.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer praised the match heavily in several tweets on X. Meltzer has rated more Ospreay matches over five stars than any wrestler ever and Ospreay is only 30 years old.

“That was among the best last 70 or so minutes of wrestling presentation I’ve ever seen. For the record Oku submitted Ospreay in 47:11. If you weren’t watching, I implore you to watch it from start to finish. The stuff after the match was in its own way as good as the match itself. Match had elements of every year from 70s to 20s.”

“Tony Khan was at the show live today by the way. After the match Ospreay thanked him for changing his life and vowed he would do better than the last eight years in NJPW. As far as a celebrity reaction, the best comparison to Khan’s reaction was watching Ronda Rousey at a PWG show.”

Will Ospreay Is Ready For AEW Revolution Match

There will be about two weeks of recovery for Ospreay before he makes his official AEW debut at the Revolution pay-per-view on March 3rd. Ospreay has wrestled in AEW several times before, but the Revolution match will be his first time as an officially contracted AEW wrestler.

In AEW, Ospreay is part of the Don Callis Family stable. On the February 14th edition of AEW Dynamite, Callis announced that Ospreay will face his stablemate Konosuke Takeshita while claiming that they will still be a “family” after the match.

On Twitter/X, the talented Englishman Will Ospreay commented on his final independent pro wrestling match and his AEW future.

I couldn’t have asked for a better exit from the indies.

2K in attendance, my parents, my mrs, my best friend & my new boss.

@TheOJMO you have my respect. You took me to the longest one on one match of my career & came out on top.
