John Cena Is Happy And Satisfied With The Way He Retired

However, speaking in a recent interview on No Contest Wrestling, John Cena claimed that losing to Gunther by tap-out was the perfect way for him to end his wrestling career.

Things are great. And then you have this three-appearance run with Dom, which is fun. Amazing, you know, like the hometown boy wins in his hometown, hits for the cycle. Like you can’t write it better than that. And then you go to San Diego, he gets his payback, but Liv comes back. We involve every f**king person we possibly can. Like a fun match and then The Ring General.

Yeah. Like Yeah. Yeah. Like, you have so much fun, and this thing is going to be awesome, and man, we’re going to go. No, he ain’t going out like this. Yeah. f**k Darth Vader’s born. [They were furious. Furious.] Dude, that’s the point. (From 1:06:32 to1:07:20)

John Cena also shared in the interview that he was the one who came up with the idea for him to tap out to Gunther in his final match.

It was a brave choice to be like, we’re killing the character off. What’s the craziest way we can do it? Yeah. You know, smiling and giving up. [Host: How did that come about?] That was all that was my choice. And again, I’m if you have a different opinion than my perspective, my responsibility is to use my talent, strengths, and gifts to give you everything I have to try to keep you entertained. I’m only just making the bets that I can make. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don’t. (From 1:07:54)
