What A Saudi Arabia Purchase Of WWE Could Mean For Talent
For over a year, reports about Saudi Arabia potentially buying WWE have done the rounds.
Neither WWE, TKO, nor Saudi Arabia’s officials have verified these claims.
Despite that, the topic continues to pick up steam. Triple H recently shared a picture on social media of having opened a new office in the Kingdom.
The Implications Of Saudi Arabia Purchase On WWE Talent
The Master Emir and “The Fixer” Martin Stone discussed the possible implications of this move by WWE and TKO on The Masters of Wrestling podcast. While they mentioned that getting visas could become easier, they also spoke about how it would affect the company’s talent.
Stone: Let’s say were are 1,000% correct and they’ve bought it and that means Raw and SmackDown is either gonna be produced from Saudi in America, but I find that very hard to…I don’t know. Just depending who they have on board.
Again, let’s say they do sell it. We don’t know what comes with it. That could just be contracts. That could just be the television rights, and so, again, that could potentially be, “Talent, you have to move to Saudi.” And they’re gonna get a lot of money to move out there.
So, now you have guys with families that are gonna have to uproot everything they have ever known to move to a country that, it’s obviously not a poor country by any sense of the means, it’s not a third world country or anything like that, but it’s a completely different culture.
And if talent think, “Oh, I can move out there and do the same thing.” Of course, you can’t. There comes a price with cultural differences. So, if they have wives and stuff like that, their wives and daughters are gonna go out there and be completely covered. And that’s not a bad thing, that’s their culture. There’s nothing wrong with that.
But now you have that struggle of potentially a wife going, “I don’t wanna raise my two daughters…
Emir: Sadly, divorce. Divorce on the rise. I’ll tell you who won’t divorce, Martin. I can tell you right now and he won’t have any qualms because she’ll lead the flock. Becky Lynch, and she’ll be taking Mr. Becky Lynch with her. He won’t have a say in it. Those two will move out there in a heartbeat. I’m telling you that right now.
Stone: Again, I’m pretty sure Matt Cardona will move out there straight away in a heartbeat as well. Me, personally, because I’m a fan of pro wrestling and I grew up watching those three logos ‘WWF or WWE,’ I hope that it’s just run from Saudi and still operates here so people could still have their lives. People can still entertain as they want to.
I just feel that if they’re…what’s the…I think the suggested price is $20 billion they’re paying? I’m sure they’re gonna barter and go back-and-forth. TKO are charging astronomical prices for a ticket. So, I don’t think they’re just gonna settle on the first offer.
So, $20 billion…are they really gonna wanna run it from there and have it still operating here? As a businessman, I can’t see that happening. So, for me, it could change the landscape. Essentially, it is a Thanos moment from Avengers have just (snaps fingers) everything changes like that. [4:42 onwards]
