Untold Story | WWE Star: My Thong Was Never Meant To Appear; Vince McMahon Was Furious
A top female WWE star revealed how a wardrobe malfunction sent Vince McMahon over the edge.
Nattie (aka Natalya Neidhart) signed with WWE in 2007. Nearly a year later, she made her main roster debut, aligning with Victoria against Cherry and Michelle McCool.
In her autobiography, “The Last Hart Beating: From the Dungeon to WWE,” the Lowkey Legend detailed her disastrous first few days on the main roster, disclosing that a series of embarrassing mistakes left the former chairman, Vince McMahon, furious.
Nattie Broke WWE Legend’s Nose & Slapped Another
Before officially joining SmackDown in April 2008, Nattie went on tour with WWE main roster superstars. The trip took a sour turn when she accidentally broke Michelle McCool’s nose.
Although the former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion thought she would get fired, she was surprisingly called up to the main roster instead. On her first day, Vince McMahon wanted to rehearse her run-in attack on Cherry and Michelle McCool. Nattie recalled being anxious. She even became more nervous when she was told McMahon did not like her gear.
Nonetheless, the Lowkey Legend went ahead with the rehearsal, planning to change her gear later. Unfortunately, the rehearsal did not go well either.
The script that night called for me to debut by teaming with the Villainous Victoria to attack Michelle McCool and her sweetheart sidekick Cherry, who I was meeting for the first time that day. And when I got to the ring, Vince was trying to figure out exactly what I would do with the attack. He didn’t know if I should slap Cherry or put the boots to her, so he told us to walk through both options so he could see them.
OK, I thought, here we go. Slap up first. I knew Vince already hated my gear, so I needed this to go well. I needed to hit a home run. I was already so nervous in the ring with him and Cherry—I could feel Michelle right there burning a hole in my back too. I was overthinking everything. “Practice how you’re going to do it,” Vince said. This was new to me, because in developmental at that time, we didn’t have rehearsals, because we didn’t have television. Vince could see I was reluctant. “You’re a heel. You’re mean. You’re nasty. Just do it whatever way feels right!” he said.
I felt anxious and nervous and overly eager to please. So, I hauled back and slapped Cherry so hard it sounded like a gun went off. She was stunned. Everybody at ringside was just speechless. And I could see Michelle shoot Cherry a look, sort of like I told you about this f*cking girl. I was as stunned as poor Cherry. I’d fired off the shot on instinct, and it landed way harder than I thought it would. “It’s just a walk-through,” Vince said gruffly, shaking his head.
“I’m so sorry,” I said to Cherry. “I didn’t mean to . . . I was trying to do it the way . . .” I couldn’t implicate Vince; he was standing right there. I felt so small—even more so because she was so sweet about it. “I know what it’s like on your first day,” she said reassuringly, almost like she didn’t mind that I’d just slapped her so hard. Like she could sense that I was trying way too hard to please and fit in, which I was. Cherry and I became best friends that day.
Nattie Suffered A Wardrobe Malfunction On Her WWE Debut
Nattie went on to make her television debut later that night, which also took a disastrous turn. The former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion changed her gear after Vince McMahon’s remark, piecing together an outfit out of borrowed workout gear from WWE Hall of Famers The Bella Twins.
However, as she went on to attack Cherry and Michelle McCool, she suffered a wardrobe malfunction. As Nattie’s thong showed, Vince McMahon went ballistic.
Before I left Florida, the Bella Twins had been kind enough to give me a suitcase of clothes “just in case,” and thank God they did. I pieced together what I hoped was a professional-looking outfit from Bebe Sport—basically fancy workout gear—and tried to make it work. But wrestling is physical, and things move.
My thong, which was never meant to make an appearance, decided it wanted to debut, too, that night, and I later found out that Vince was furious about it. He didn’t want the camera on me in general because he didn’t like how my gear looked, and my wardrobe malfunction on top of that sent him over the edge. “We need to get her some different clothes. Different gear. Everything,” he told his producers, who then hurried to tell me.
So, in my very brief time on the main roster, I’d somehow managed to break Michelle’s nose, nearly concuss Cherry in rehearsal, flash my underwear to the world, and piss Vince off—all before my first match even aired.
