According to the latest report, Triple H’s future with the WWE was in doubt before he signed a new deal recently.

It’s been a few years since Triple H succeeded Vince McMahon as the head of WWE’s creative team. While he was praised for his creative decisions in the first two years, The Game has been facing a lot of backlash for his work since the last year. Many fans on the internet have also claimed that The Cerebral Assassin could be fired by the TKO following hefty online criticism.

Nevertheless, Triple H recently signed a new deal with the WWE and will continue being the creative head for some more time. However, Hunter’s future as the Chief Content Officer was reportedly uncertain.

Triple H’s WWE future was reportedly in doubt before his contract was extended

Speaking on the recent edition of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez reported that there were discussions regarding replacing Triple H leading up to WrestleMania 42:

Sometimes there will be some things that are booked and fans won’t like it, and then they’ll try to get this traction going that maybe we need to replace Triple H. I will say that this year, leading to WrestleMania, unlike previous years when fans were discussing it, it was a topic of conversation in WWE leading up to WrestleMania 42.”

Bryan Alvarez further noted that the discussion about replacing The Game was because of many last-minute changes on the road to WrestleMania 42. Alvarez also reported that some people within the company were not sure if Hunter would be around next year:

I want to make it very clear—the people discussing this within WWE were not discussing this in the sense that, ‘We think he’s doing a horrible job, we need him to be replaced.’ It was being discussed specifically because so much stuff was being done at the last second by people outside. The decision to bring in Pat McAfee, the decision to insert him into the storyline, the thing with Jelly Roll—I heard about it prior to that as well with other things that had come from above.”

It was just kind of—there was a feeling that perhaps these people keep getting involved, and why would they keep getting involved if they have so much faith in this guy? And there were people who thought, ‘I don’t know if this guy’s gonna be around at this time next year.’” [h/t Ringside News]

Alvarez concluded by noting how there were discussions that The Game may not be in WWE for a long period of time.
